technical difficulties

Hi, all!  It's me!  I'm still here, we're all healthy and well and I've been crafting and creating up a storm lately.   But, unfortunately, I'm not doing any connecting, thanks to a phone company that first mistakenly disconnected my DSL line, and then my entire phone connection.  Don't even get me started on my thoughts regarding automated phone messages, out-of-country customer service call centers and voice menus.  You don't want to know.  The first available date for the company to send a service technician is June 5, three weeks after they made the mistake in the first place.  So that's how Rebecca will spend her first day of summer vacation, stuck at home waiting for a repairman.  At least she won't have to wake up early.

Anyway, that's the deal.  My husband let me use his office computer for a few minutes while he dragged the girls to the bank.  So, I'm trying to type like lightning and am avoiding the 578 emails I have.  Please don't delete me from your blogrolls, I'll be back soon (I say, with all the optimism I can muster).  This is my first post in three years without a photo... sigh.  Well, I'll have lots to show later!

Before I forget, I wanted to show my latest Star Struck blocks.

And the blue batiks.  I'm much more satisfied with the way my blocks are coming together now that I've changed the way I press my blocks.  Following Elizabeth's reasoning, I now press my seams open instead of to one side, and my points are looking much better, my seams are lying flatter and are less wonky, and my pieces don't shift as much when I'm running them through the machine.  Win, win, win!  Takes a bit longer to press, but I don't really mind that.  Although I might change my tune when the weather gets above 90 degrees real soon.

mommy day

I'm off to spend the day with my three dears at the Rose Bowl Flea Market.  We're going to get nachos, frozen lemonade and kettle corn, walk around aimlessly until we all want to be carried home, and savor the 80 degree sunshine and time shared with each other.

little artist dude

Finished up this Little Artist Crayon Keeper today.  He'll be going in the Arts and Crafts basket that my daughter's first grade class is raffling off at Open House in a few weeks.  I mostly followed the pattern, with just a few minor adjustments, and it went together pretty well.  I think it will be a hit with the six year old crowd for sure, they really aren't tough to please.

moose and a giraffe... and have a nice day, too

Ali and I have been exchanging magazines for months and months now, and last week I received the latest Charlie & Lola, along with a little note from Ali.  I promptly squirreled away the magazine, but left the postcard on the table, thinking my girls would love the cats on the back and use it as a bookmark or something.  Rebecca picked it up and read it, then asked me who Ali was.  I explained she was my bloggy friend from England.  Now, for the past few nights we've been reading Judy Moody Declares Independence, where the main character meets a gal from England and various cultural references come up and work their way into Judy's vocabulary.  She says barmy instead of crazy, gobsmacked instead of amazed.  Stuff like that.  So anyway, Rebecca reads Ali's card again, then looks at me and says, "So is 'moose and a giraffe' the way people in England say 'Hi, how are you doing?'"

So, moose and a giraffe, and have a great weekend.
