Well, thanks for your input, I think it was unanimous. I left the girls' gifts as they were, and finished them up "wrong."
I saw one of these in a quilt shop years ago, but didn't buy the pattern. And it has been haunting me. I knew I could make them myself, but there was so much math involved! And I pretty much suck at math. But after making 5 of them, the first 3 of which were given away as gifts, I finally think I've got it right. Can't figure out how to do it without the extra pockets on the ends, but oh well. As is, these crayon totes are exactly sized to fit a standard coloring book or pad of paper, and a box of 24 crayons.
Here's another shot of the mismatched linings, which Becca said she liked (but of course she would, always so eager to please, trying to say the "right" thing - breaks my heart sometimes). Becca got the pink polka dot, Jessie the Olivia, because it fits their personalities so perfectly. And Jessie's has the washable Crayolas, for sure. I really like these, and would love to make some for sale some day, but those dang pockets sure take forever to sew up, and I'm just not that in love with my machine. Maybe it's the dining room table, the saggy chairs, or the fact that I'm sick and can't breathe, but my back hurts, my head aches, and my eyes are a little blurry.
This is the one I made last month to accompany the burp cloths. I loved the rocket fabric and was dying to share it with you all. But now I'm ready for my knitting needles, or a crochet hook, or even a simple needle and thread. I'm a little tired of the machine, and think I'll be taking a break from Mr. Singer. For a little while, at least, just until the next quilt block is due.
ooo I love these - great job.

Those are fabulous. Is that really fabric with Olivia on it? We LOVE Olivia here!
I think they look good with the fabrics mixed up like that - if you hadn't told us I'd have assumed it was intentional. Truly.

Peanut just LOOOOOVES his!! thanks sososo much!! he has never been tidy with his crayons before, usually he peels the paper then breaks them into several pieces. but with his new BAG! he loves how each crayon has it's own holder and is so careful about putting them back after he uses them.
these really should go in your etsy shop. :)
