through my child's eyes

So you may have noticed a few changes around here.  I treated myself to an upgraded Typepad account for my birthday, and added a custom banner.  Nothing fancy, but whew!  That took a long time.  I'm totally lame at this computer stuff, but hopefully I'll get better.

Child's eyes

Anyway, along with being able to put in my own banner, I am also allowed to create up to two more blogs.  So I set up Through My Child's Eyes (sort of - it's a work in progress, of course) as a fun photographic challenge for Rebecca, and I'll be working on the third blog (to review and document the craft books I have) sometime soon.

I'm thinking I'll have a much better chance at accomplishing something after school starts.

red + pink

Img_00511_3

Becca will ask me every so often, "what's the color of the day this week?"  She was all over it this time, as soon as she heard the "p" word.

Monday there's no school for Becca, so hopefully we'll be able to slow down and notice the little things, enjoy some free time together.  I'm going to try to take this article, written by Molly, to heart.  There's been a little too much screaming and many tears around here lately, not enough laughter (or sleep).  Breathe in, breathe out, inhale, exhale, take a step back.  Ah.  Much better.

pink + orange

Pink = Austin (usually purple, but Rebecca insists he's pink here) + orange = Tyrone.  The Backyardigans on DVD, as seen through the lens of my daughter's camera.

My contributions for this week are reruns, and can be seen here or here.

red + white

Becca starts Kindergarten in one week, and I've been looking through some of her old photographs, feeling nostalgic and missing the days when we didn't butt heads ten times before noon.

Wonder if she'd still fit in a two gallon milk carton?

And here's Rebecca's contribution to red + white.  It's a family affair!

pink (and grey)

Meow_meow_closeup1

Rebecca's most valued pink possession.  Meow Meow the kitty, who is currently sporting a very nice shade of dingy grey.  She was missing for approximately 20 hours this week and the Fourth of July fireworks were a bit stressful without her, but now she's tucked safely in Becca's arms as she sleeps.  Greyness, dinge and all.

Meow Meow is so definitely getting a bath tomorrow.

(what's so funny 'bout) peace love and understanding?

Do you remember that Elvis Costello song?  Anyway, I had the best laugh the other day, when the girls and I went for a little walk with the camera.

Img_0002

As usual, Rebecca was running way up ahead, and when she saw this she stopped to take a photo ( I love the way the focal point is so high, it's easy for me to forget that she has a much lower vantage point than I do).  As she waited for me and Jess to catch up, she pointed and shouted over her shoulder, "Hey, momma, look!  Vehicle... loves... you!"

Oh. my. goodness.  Vehicle loves you?  So here's the score.  Mercedes-Benz - 1, Peace - 0.  Sorry, peace.  I think you need a better advertising agency.

Becca took this photo of Professor Quigley from the DVD we've had from Netflix since March.  Pretty clear, huh?  The camera we bought her for Christmas is working out really well.

I'm thinking of starting a new Flickr! group for photos that our kids take, which I would run like the old Kiddley Photo Theme.  Would anyone be interested?

maroon

Whoo, boy, was it hard to find something meaningful this week.  Guess this color isn't much on my radar.  But Becca found something.

Img_0021

Mommy, me and Jessica, marker on copy paper, 8.5" x 11".  Created during one of Jessie's naps circa February 21, 2007.  It *must* have been during Jess' naptime, because that's when Becca pulls out the big guns, the big girl art supplies.  One of the things I love most about this photo she took is the stripes in the background.  Lots and lots of "sticky tapes," smacked all over my living room wall, right behind the couch.  If I get brave, one day I'll take a photo of the whole wall.  Luckily, it hasn't been painted yet.  My husband and I decided the interior decorating will wait until the kids can wield crayons without covering the walls, sides of furniture and other assorted surfaces, and until my kitty cat is no longer around to claw the heck out of every upholstered object in the middle of the night.

We can wait.

made it myself

Rebecca got a new camera from Mom and Dad at Christmas (Santa doesn't get credit for this one), and after the purchase of new lithium batteries, we're back on track with Kiddley's photo theme.

A pom pom, ruler, pipe cleaner (excuse me, I mean chenille stem), foam shapes, and the ubiquitous sticky tape.  Just a few moments later, I'm face to face with... a character.

Rebecca thought it up, twisted it, taped it and took the photo herself.

I love it so much.
