fabric thimbles

With two kids under the age of 5, my dressing-up days are on hiatus.  When someone says accessory to me, I don't think fashion.  No, no pins, earrings, bracelets or belts on me, and my bags are big and bulky, more functional than stylish.  So what to make for this month's Whiplash?

I can't sit still without something in my hands.  When the kidlets have finally fallen asleep, and I have a chance to watch some TV, I grab my knitting needles, a crochet hook, or something to sew before I can get into trouble with a bowl of Ben & Jerry's.  So I decided to make a craft accessory that you can also wear.  For the design category, I suppose?

I saw some fabric thimbles in a book by Kumiko Sudo, and the image of them stuck with me.  At first, I thought they were rings, they were so beautiful.  Mine are made of a strip of wool felt with some scrap fabric appliqued on top, and then embroidered.  I haven't actually used them as thimbles yet, we'll have to see how well-suited they are to the task.

But even if they aren't all that useful, wouldn't a half dozen or so of these look yummy in a small ceramic bowl?

Very ingenious. Love them.

Quite cute. Let us know how they work!

Those are so cool! I would give these a whirl because I'm always poking myself with my beading needles, but metal thimbles are so annoying...you may havecreated a solution = )

Hey those are awesome! BTW with kids under 5 dressing-up days don't stop, it just takes on a new meaning! As in Snow White-like or Cinderella-ish! I've been seen with a tiara on in public before.

Those are so cute!!!

Very cool..I love them!

what if you stuck something hard under the fabric you applique on? in case the fabric isnt enough? like maybe a rectangle of cardboard??
